Xperience Sessions With Kungs

RJ Melbin from Indigomusic.com caught up with Valentin Brunel who is a French DJ, record producer, and musician better known by his stage name Kungs. Valentin picked the stage name ‘Kungs’ (Latvian for “Mister”) after looking up the translation of the word “gentleman” in numerous languages on the internet.

He began playing music at the age of five, using a djembe that his parents had gifted him. With his father, he grew up listening to rock & roll legends such as The Who and The Kooks. When he was seventeen, he began composing and posting his own works on the internet. His remixes of Bob Marley and the Wailers’ ‘Jamming’ and Lana Del Rey’s ‘West Coast,’ which featured fresh vocals from Molly, both received millions of views on SoundCloud and YouTube. On YouTube, Kungs’ remix of Lost Frequencies’ ‘Are You with Me’ has over 16 million views.

Following his remix of Cookin’ on 3 Burners’ ‘This Girl,’ which reached number 1 in France, Germany, and Switzerland and number 2 on the UK Singles Chart in 2016, Kungs released his first extended play ‘This Girl’ in 2016. Since then, he’s released the singles ‘Don’t You Know’ with Jamie N Commons and ‘I Feel So Bad’ with Ephemerals. Kungs’ three 2016 singles were released on November 4th as part of his debut album Layers.
