Larry Sager

RJ Rohit caught up with Larry Sager, a rock guitarist living in Los Angeles and a native of Michigan. ESQ, an indie-rock band based in sunny LA, California is spearheaded by the singer-songwriter.

Larry hails from a large family of skilled musicians, writers and entertainers (cousins, aunts and uncles). His mother was a classically trained violinist and pianist, whereas his father was an amateur musician.

At just 5 years of age, Larry passed a musical aptitude test conducted by a renowned Detroit music company. This led him to take piano lessons with them. Larry took classical piano training for seven years before developing an interest in blues and rock ‘n’ roll, which led him to Miles Davis, fusion and avant-garde jazz.

Previously, Larry collaborated on songs with Bill Champlin of Chicago, Donald Baldwin of The Temptations, Stewart Copeland of The Police and others. He also spent hours in the recording studio with renowned writer-producer David Foster, picking his brain about the business while listening to mix downs at ear-splitting volumes.

Everyone usually has something to say, but it would be much easier if no one spoke up, according to Larry about his new second track, ‘Everybody’s Got Something’. Everything is becoming commercialised, and con artists are preying on people’s everyday needs and wishes as well as their financial and spiritual resources. Politicians, financial planners, even spiritual and religious authorities. They are only looking out for themselves while posing as an advocate for the common folk who are just trying to get by in life.
