Xperience Sessions With Indie Artist Nidhi Chacko

RJ Rohit caught up with Kerala-born singer-songwriter and producer Nidhi Chacko who is based in Singapore.

The pop musician began writing music in 2005. In 2016, she released her debut EP, ‘Super Magic Fairy Wings’, which featured a melodramatic pop and rock style influenced by artists like Britney Spears, Avril Lavigne and Linkin Park.

She did, however, experience a creative and psychological slump after enrolling in a music school. Despite her preference to avoid discussing specifics, Chacko claims that the school was not at all what she had hoped for. Students and teachers made a special effort to criticise her, tell her how awful she was and suggest that she give up. She had no idea that anything could make her give up, but that did and she left.

Around that time, she also had sympathy for a friend going through a terrible time, which inspired her song ‘Sleep At Night.’ Chacko sings not only for her buddy but also for herself and anybody going through a path of self-doubt, maintaining her cinematic sense of pop with strings, electronic beats and piano.

Her vocals emphasise the message by using magical words straight out of a Disney film. Chacko resumed work on ‘Sleep At Night’ in earnest during the pandemic in early 2020, despite the fact that it had been in the works for six years.

She claims that when she was feeling down in the dumps, she started singing the song to herself. It merely served to remind her that she was capable of being there for herself.

Both ‘Sleep At Night’ and her early 2022 single ‘Love Drunk’ were remotely produced at Holophonica Studios in Italy. In the music video, which was made by Alrick C. Films, Chacko can be seen singing the song while she was in a state of anguish and also when she was feeling better.
