Xperience Sessions With Swarathma
RJ Rohit caught up with Swarathma, an Indian Folk/Fusion band from Bangalore. KJ Pavan (percussion and vocals), Vasu Dixit (vocals and rhythm guitar), Sanjeev Nayak (violin and vocals), Varun Murali (guitar and vocals), Jishnu Dasgupta (bass guitar and vocals) and Joel Milan Baptist (drums) make up the current line-up.
The band’s sound is influenced by Indian folk and classical music, as well as Western elements such as Blues rock and reggae. Their songs draw inspiration from both personal experiences and societal and political issues.
Swarathma has two full-length studio albums to their credit, Swarathma (2009) and Topiwalleh (2012), as well as a number of singles and music videos. They were featured on the cover of Rolling Stone India and on their list of the 25 Hottest Indian Bands. They won Band, Song, and Album of the Year at the 2009 Jack Daniels Indian Rock Awards. They are one of India’s most popular folk rock bands, having toured Morocco, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Australia and Singapore.
Swarathma will be performing at Sunday Soul Sante on 1st May
