Post Malone: Unveiling The Fascinating Origin of His Stage Name as He Celebrates 29

As this iconic artist grows older and wiser, curiosity about the meaning behind his stage name resurfaces. For those unaware, the artist’s real name is Austin Richard Post. Unlike many celebrities who meticulously crafted their stage personas, Post Malone took a more straightforward approach to his new identity.

Post Malone, with his unique voice and distinct sound, quickly ascended from rap obscurity to become one of the genre’s biggest stars. His 2016 debut album, ‘Stoney,’ catapulted him to the top of the charts, making his name recognizable to millions. But how did he come up with his stage name? Let’s delve into the story behind it.

Born as Austin Richard Post, the ambitious rapper adopted his stage moniker at a young age, long before achieving multi-platinum hits and Grammy nominations. During an appearance on Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg’s VH1 show, ‘Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party,’ he shared that he began calling himself Post Malone around the age of 14.

In a 2011 interview with Jimmy Fallon, Malone revealed that he used an online rap name generator, inspired by Donald Glover, who also found his stage name using the Wu-Tang generator. He recounted how entering his name into the generator was amusing until he saw “Post Malone” and immediately loved it.

The pseudonym combines his last name, Post, with the rest generated by the online tool. He’s not alone in this method—fellow musician Childish Gambino also derived his name from an online Wu-Tang Clan generator.

Post Malone is pulling out all the stops for his country’s turn. In June, the rapper and singer announced dates for his upcoming F-1 Trillion Tour. This 21-show tour will take him through stadiums, festivals, and theatres, supporting his recently announced debut country album of the same name. During his tour announcement, Malone expressed his excitement to People, saying, “I love y’all so very much, and I’m so excited to get out there and play new music for you.”
