New Update

After months of uncertainty surrounding the future of the ‘Saw’ franchise, horror fans finally have a reason to be optimistic. Blumhouse Productions is reportedly in advanced discussions to take over Twisted Pictures’ portion of the ‘Saw’ franchise, raising hopes for a revival of the iconic horror series. According to Deadline, the potential deal would shift ownership from longtime producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules to Blumhouse, while Lionsgate would maintain control of its existing 50% stake in the franchise.

Though no new movie has been officially announced, the move could pave the way for a significant creative resurgence. Notably, James Wan, who directed the original ‘Saw’  film and now oversees Atomic Monster, a subsidiary of Blumhouse, would be more closely connected to the franchise than he has been in years.

The potential change in ownership comes after a turbulent year for the ‘Saw’ franchise. Kevin Greutert, director of ‘Saw X’, was originally set to return for ‘Saw XI’, which Lionsgate had planned for a 2025 release. Excitement grew among fans, especially with the return of Tobin Bell as John Kramer. However, the project was unexpectedly cancelled earlier this year, dashing hopes of a continuation.

Writers Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan, known for their previous work in the ‘Saw’  franchise, recently shared that their script had been completed in 2024 but had seen no movement since May of that year. They revealed the delay was not creative but rather managerial, pointing to internal disagreements between producers and Lionsgate that have stalled progress.

There’s Still Hope For ‘Saw’ Franchise Fans

Blumhouse’s potential involvement could change all that. The studio is no stranger to revitalising iconic horror IPs, having successfully rebooted the ‘Halloween’ trilogy and backing fan-favourite projects like ‘Ma’ and ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s 2’. With a reputation for balancing commercial success with fan expectations, Blumhouse is in a strong position to breathe new life into ‘Saw’.

As of now, fans will have to wait for an official announcement. But if the acquisition is finalised, the return of ‘Saw’ could be more brutal, creative, and satisfying than ever. Keep an eye on Blumhouse’s next moves — this may be the start of a chilling new chapter for the franchise.
