Tom Felton is stepping back into the Wizarding World — this time on stage. At 37 years old, the actor, famously recognised for his portrayal of Draco Malfoy throughout all eight ‘Harry Potter’ films, is gearing up for his Broadway debut this fall. He will bring the character of an adult Draco to life in ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’ during a special 19-week engagement at New York City’s Lyric Theatre, beginning November 11, 2025.
The announcement was made recently, which coincides with the fictional birthday of Draco Malfoy, now canonically 45 years old. Taking over from Aaron Bartz, Felton makes history as the first actor from the original Harry Potter films to join the award-winning stage adaptation, which premiered in London in 2016 and later captivated Broadway audiences beginning in 2018.

Tom Felton is Happy to be Back as Draco Malfoy
Tom Felton described the opportunity as surreal and said it feels like stepping into a dream. Although he left the character behind 16 years ago, returning to Draco — now reimagined as a father navigating his son's journey at Hogwarts — is something he considers deeply exciting and meaningful.
When the actor first slipped back into Draco’s iconic platinum-blond hair and costume, the experience stirred strong emotions. He revealed that revisiting the character brought back a flood of childhood memories tied to the original film series, which played a significant role in shaping his early career.
Tom Felton also noted that joining ‘Cursed Child’ is a full-circle moment. He steps into the role at the exact age Draco is depicted in the story, adding a deeper layer of authenticity and personal resonance to his performance. The actor shared his excitement about connecting with the passionate ‘Harry Potter’ fanbase once again and expressed gratitude for becoming part of Broadway’s theatrical community.

What Would ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’ Offer?
Set 19 years after the events of ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’, ‘Cursed Child’ picks up at Platform 9¾ as Harry and Ginny send their son, Albus, off to his first year at Hogwarts. The play, which originally ran in two parts, was reimagined as a single performance after Broadway returned post-pandemic.
Tom Felton has long embraced the legacy of Draco Malfoy, and he previously voiced enthusiasm for portraying any member of the Malfoy family in future projects — whether as Draco, Lucius, or even a next-generation Malfoy. He has admitted to feeling a strong sense of ownership over the role and even joked that seeing another actor step into Draco’s shoes would make him a bit protective.

Though ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’ has yet to be adapted for the big screen, there’s growing interest. Director Chris Columbus, who helmed the first two ‘Harry Potter’ films, has expressed interest in directing a film version starring the original trio — Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson — as adults. According to Columbus, such a project would be a dream come true for longtime fans and the perfect continuation of the franchise.
With his return to Draco Malfoy, Tom Felton offers fans both nostalgia and a fresh take on a beloved character, one that continues to evolve in new and exciting ways on stage.
