Ariana Grande recently celebrated one year of ”Thank U, Next”. This time last year Araina Grande released Thank U, Next after breaking off her engagement to Pete Davison, a popular comedian from Saturday Night Live. The singer has always been a pop icon, and the musical aftermath of her failed relationship made her icon status shoot to the roof.
Thank U, Next quickly gained popularity as a self empowerment anthem for listeners everywhere! As it turns a year old Ariana has been quick to thank her fans and tell them about how much she has grown since the song came out ! It a tweet she said “ Happy birthday, Thankyou Next . I can’t believe I’ve spent more time alone this year than I have in my life, I can’t believe how many sessions w[ith] my therapist I’ve had, how many times I’ve sung this song, how much I’ve learned and healed, how much I still have to learn and heal!” She continued, “It’s been one hall of a productive, emotional, wild and yet …happy! year.”

The title of this song is in reference to a collection of matching friendship rings Ariana and six of her friends bought in New York!

Part of the plot of Mean Girls is “The Burn Book,” an old journal of queen bee Regina George, which is filled with secrets and insults about her classmates and teachers. The video for this song features a close-up of a diary similar to the “Burn Book” in which Grande writes about some of her past boyfriends.

The song’s music video was directed by Grande’s frequent collaborator Hannah Lux Davis and features a love triangle involving Grande, Riverdale’s Charles Melton, and his girlfriend, played by model Ariel Yasmine. Playing on the fact that Ariel looks strikingly like the singer, the clip follows Grande in her attempts to drive a wedge between the couple. However, she ends up hooking up with her doppelganger.
