Assassin’s Creed Shadows has quickly established itself as one of Ubisoft’s biggest hits in recent memory, earning standout sales figures and critical acclaim within weeks of its launch. According to Ubisoft, the title had one of the strongest day-one performances in the franchise’s history—second only to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.
Released on March 20, the latest entry in the long-running series has already made a big impression thanks to its unique feudal Japan setting and the introduction of dual protagonists, Naoe and Yasuke. These innovations, combined with solid reviews from critics, have fuelled its commercial momentum. Ubisoft reports that Shadows not only posted some of the highest launch-day sales in the franchise, but also broke records for PlayStation’s digital storefront, and players have logged over 160 million hours in the game so far.
These impressive stats build on earlier reports from April that showed Assassin’s Creed Shadows ranking among the top-selling games of 2025, coming in just behind Monster Hunter Wilds during the year’s first quarter. The game also maintained a strong presence on U.S. sales charts through its first several weeks post-launch.

More Content on the Way
Ubisoft is continuing to build on this momentum with a rich post-launch content plan. One of the most anticipated additions is the upcoming Claws of Awaji DLC, set to arrive later this year. This story expansion will take players beyond Osaka Bay, where protagonists Naoe and Yasuke embark on a new mission involving a lost treasure and dangerous new adversaries. Many fans are hopeful this content will address some of the unresolved plot threads from the main game.
In the meantime, Ubisoft is rolling out steady updates aimed at enhancing gameplay. A recent patch was praised for refining the parkour mechanics, and more improvements are on the horizon. Upcoming updates in late May will introduce new movement options such as vertical ledge jumps, back and side ejects, and tweaks to climbing behavior. The June update promises even more, with additions like a new companion character, extra quests, expanded difficulty and immersion settings, and an open-world alarm system.
With a strong launch and a roadmap packed with content, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is shaping up to be one of Ubisoft’s most successful and supported titles in years.
