Bruno Mars Speaks About Cultural Appropriation

Bruno Mars, the American singer and songwriter has finally given his ten cents on the sensitive topic, ‘cultural appropriation’. The ‘Count On Me’ singer comes of Puerto Rican and Ashkenazi Jewish descent but over the past, has been accused of appropriating Black music.

Recently, it looked like Bruno Mars had enough of this! He spoke about this and also went on to defend himself. He even dropped some names to show people he knew what he was speaking about through his music.

Bruno Mars Defends Himself…

Bruno Mars goes on to say, “I would say you can’t find an interview where I am not talking about the entertainers that have come before me. The only reason why I’m here is because of James Brown, Prince, Michael [Jackson] – that’s the only reason why I’m here.”

“I’m growing up as a kid watching Bobby Brown, saying, ‘OK, if that’s what it takes to make it then I gotta do the running man, I gotta learn how to do the moonwalk’. That’s it. This music comes from love and if you can’t hear that, then I don’t know what to tell you.”

Bruno Mars added: “What’s the point if we, as musicians, can’t learn from the guys who came before us? Why did they do it? I hope later on down the road there’s gonna be a band that’s taking what we did and flipping that and freaking that and putting their own spin on it, because if they don’t then what was the point of us doing this?”

Bruno Mars Trends #LetSilkSonicThrive

Bruno Mars has been up to a lot of things lately. One of them includes launching a new group, ‘Silk Sonic’ which includes Anderson Paak. The group had their debut, just last week. “Leave The Door Open” is out and will be part of their collaborative project, ‘An Evening With Silk Sonic’.

Bruno Mars has also been making a public plea to his fans and the Grammy Recording Academy. Why? Grammy Awards announced their 2021 performers list and Silk Sonic wasn’t a part of it. What started as multiple tweets on how they’re not on the list, soon went to become a trending hashtag, #LetSilkSonicThrive.

Now, only time will tell if Bruno Mars get to perform with Anderson Paak in the Grammy Awards 2021, but we’ll keep you up to date.
