Camilla Cabello’s new single, ‘Don’t Go Yet’ was released on Friday (July 23rd).

The music video starts off with the ‘Senorita’ singer driving around happily in a vintage car while changing the radio station. She is also dressed in vintage clothes. The video suddenly zooms out and shows a small tropical set in a Claymation-style edit. A telenovela-style poster promoting the single, pops up that read, “Bienvenidos a la Familia,” which translates from Spanish to, “Welcome to the family!”

Later the singer is shown ringing the doorbell at a pink mansion atop a hill.

The video by Philippa Price and Pilar Zeta features a very vibrant and carefree close-knit family dancing with Camilla, featuring many of her actual family members including her father, sister and cousin.

The pop star revealed on YouTube’s ‘Released’, that she drew inspiration for her new record by Cuban-Mexican family parties from her childhood, where “everybody eats dinner, and then after you put on a little cheap disco ball with lights and suddenly the living room is the dance floor.” In addition to it, was the fact that she spent more time with her family during the many covid lockdowns which deepened her Latina roots.

It’s an apt lead single from Camilla’s forthcoming album, Familia. The track is her first since the release of her sophomore album Romance at the end of 2019, which hit No.3 on the Billboard 200.

Chatting up with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1 of the record, she said that she wanted it to be that kind of family affair selfishly because it would make her happy. It would make her life better and that’s what she wanted. So that’s really what she was trying to manifest with this whole album.

She added, “And I think ‘Don’t Go Yet’ is just I think sonically and melodically, just me being free. I think being in Miami for so long and having more family around me and speaking Spanish more made me feel, I don’t know, just kind of brought me back. I think my roots went deeper in a way that I really needed. And I think this album for me was a manifestation. The name of my album is ‘Familia’.”

Cabello explained how the pandemic enabled her to take things slow and savor some time for herself, far away from the celebrity spotlight.

“Obviously covid was a terrible thing, but I think for my personal life and my brain, it was really good to slow down,” she said. “And so, I was like, ‘Oh, this is…’ I don’t know. I just kind of learned how to be, I think a human and develop interests and passions outside of the studio and outside of music and outside of that.”

“And I think that brought me really close to…brought me really close to my family. And for me, even when I think of…there’s the word family in terms of your immediate literal family and for me, it’s also your chosen family, your friendships and your relationships, in that broader sense.”

The singer added, “I think for me, that was neglected for so long too because I was never in the same place for more than a week or two. So, I think this was a chance for me to really consciously work on and invest in what I think makes me and human beings truly happy, which is your relationships and your connection to the people around you.”

The release date of ‘Familia’ remains unknown.
