Charli XCX: ‘Girl, So Confusing’ Remix Was Lorde’s Idea
Charli XCX has confirmed that Lorde came up with the idea for the remix of ‘Girl, So Confusing’. Originally appearing on Charli XCX’s latest album ‘Brat’, the track was partly inspired by Lorde, including Charli’s feelings of envy over Lorde’s success with ‘Royals’. Several weeks after the album’s release, Charli unveiled a new version of the song, this time featuring Lorde herself. Speaking to Billboard, Charli revealed that the remix was entirely initiated by Lorde.
Charli XCX described the process of discussing the song’s personal connection with Lorde and gaining her approval. Attempting to arrange a meeting for nearly a year, their plans were inconsistent, reflecting the song’s narrative. Ultimately, they couldn’t make it happen.
On the eve of the album’s release, Charli sent Lorde a voice message. Lorde promptly responded, expressing surprise and apologizing for not realizing Charli’s feelings. Spontaneously, Lorde suggested she should feature on a version of the song without prompting from Charli.
Reflecting on the album rollout, Charli noted that while much was meticulously planned, some aspects, like Lorde’s remix of “Girl, So Confusing,” were unplanned and came together in just three days.
When ‘Brat’ was released in June, Lorde shared her admiration for the album and Charli as an artist, stating that she speaks for everyone when she says it’s a privilege to be inspired, transformed, and amazed by her work. There’s no one else like her.
Meanwhile, Lorde is hinting at her fourth album. Sharing an update on her Instagram, she wrote: “If the tools don’t exist, you are spiritually obligated to create them,” along with variations of the term ‘L4’.
The collaboration between Charli XCX and Lorde on the remix of ‘Girl, So Confusing’ highlights a spontaneous creative connection initiated by Lorde herself. Charli’s acknowledgment of Lorde’s influence and the personal narrative behind the song adds depth to their musical relationship. Despite challenges in arranging a meeting, the eventual collaboration resonated deeply, reflecting the unpredictable nature of artistic inspiration.
Lorde’s appreciation for Charli’s album ‘Brat’ underscores mutual respect and admiration between artists. Her cryptic Instagram update teasing her fourth album suggests ongoing creative evolution and anticipation among fans.
Overall, their collaboration and mutual support in the music industry showcase the power of artistic interpretation and shared creative journeys.
