SPOILERS AHEAD!

‘Final Destination: Bloodlines’ is live once again with gore and Death itself.

It's evident that horror fans still have a strong affection for the venerable series as ‘Final Destination: Bloodlines’ tops the box office this weekend.  The possibilities for this terrifying series appear limitless, since Death itself is the inexorable and invisible antagonist.  Adam Stein and Zach Lipovsky, the directors of  ‘Final Destination: Bloodlines’, are well aware of that possibility and are eager to push the limits of terror and fate.

The co-directors discussed their ideas about the potential longevity of the ‘Final Destination’ franchise in a recent interview with Perri Nemiroff of Collider.  They emphasised how having death as a persistent and unavoidable adversary has a special attraction because it allows for countless creative possibilities.

Adam Stein said it's been entertaining to watch the fan ideas and pitches that are going around online.  He cited concepts that ranged from a sci-fi crossover that takes place on a spacecraft to a ‘Final Destination’ that takes place in the 1500s during the pirate era.  He pointed out that these creative leaps show how passionate and creative the fandom can be, even though he acknowledged that these concepts depart from the series' typical suburban American context.

But the most bizarre idea they've encountered?  Zach Lipovsky claims that it originated from a Reddit discussion.  In this extreme fan pitch, an asteroid is on its way to Earth, and Death recalibrates just as NASA is able to divert it, saving humanity from destruction.  Everyone on Earth is now set to die simultaneously as the planet was designated for death.  According to Lipovsky, it would be a worldwide chaotic situation reminiscent of a Roland Emmerich disaster movie, with mass death scenes taking place all across the world at once.

The directors of  ‘Final Destination: Bloodlines’ are not the only ones who believe the franchise will be successful in the long run.  Nemiroff was also interviewed by longtime producer Craig Perry, who stressed that the fundamental theme of ‘Final Destination’—the conflict between fate and free will—is a globally relevant subject.  He clarified that the brand is particularly timeless because this idea cuts across all cultures and generations.  Perry thinks that ‘Final Destination’ will succeed no matter who is in charge as long as people continue to doubt fate and chance.

Fans are not only flocking to see  ‘Final Destination: Bloodlines’ in cinemas, but they are also generating ideas for the franchise's future directions.  Death never takes a day off, regardless of whether the story takes place in the past, space, or a world-ending event.
