J Balvin and Roddy Ricch Will Be No Shows at 2020 VMAs

J Balvin and Roddy Ricch drop out as performers

Joining the list of never ending updates from the 2020 MTV VMAs is some unfortunate news. Rap sensations, J Balvin and Roddy Ricch will no longer be performing at this year’s award show. Their absence from the performance line up at the upcoming award show was announced earlier today.

An official statement to Variety about the issue read: “As with every awards show, there are always last-minute talent changes. That said, this year has more logistical hurdles than most and the health and safety of our employees and partners is of the utmost importance.”

J Balvin and His Tryst with COVID-19

In addition to the news, fans have also been reeling from the revelation that J Balvin recently recovered from COVID-19. The rapper took to social media to open up about his experience with the virus and encouraged his followers to take the current circumstanes seriously and proceed with caution.

As far as Roddy Ricch’s absence is concerned, not much has been revealed. But, this news only joins a long list of last minute plans on the MTV VMAs front. The award show went from being held inside the Barclays Centre, to now being celebrated outdoors in order to “highlight the boroughs in an exciting show.” And, while there may only be a week left for the award show to take place, the trying global circumstances may bring new changes to the schedule.

The Way Forward

And, while Roddy Ricch and J Balvin will no longer be performing at the show, a rundown of some of the biggest stars in pop music will be present. Exciting performances from BTS, Ariana Grande, Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, The Weeknd, Doja Cat and more are all set to take place. The 2020 MTV VMAs are scheduled for the 30th of August and will be hosted by Keke Palmer.
