Kelsea Ballerini Opens up About “Entering My 30s” in New Album ‘Patterns’

Kelsea Ballerini has released her fifth studio album, ‘Patterns’, showcasing her most vulnerable songwriting to date. This 15-song collection explores her journey of moving on from a divorce and embracing a new decade of life. Ballerini candidly reflects on her experiences, stating, “I feel naked on the album.”

In an exclusive interview, she discusses the self-assessment that often accompanies turning 30. “I came up for air and I was like, ‘Okay, all right, let's take a little inventory here,’” she explains. This introspection led her to examine what she loves, what feels uncomfortable, and the patterns she wishes to change in herself and her relationships.

Ballerini also reveals that she gained clarity after experiencing her ‘Saturn’ return, a time often marked by significant personal growth. “Mine kicked my ass,” she admits, “but I definitely have a better grasp on my life now.”

This newfound understanding is evident throughout the album, as she navigates complex emotions and personal revelations. As she delved into her songwriting process, Ballerini discovered some of her relational habits.

She recognised that whenever relationships become intimidating or fraught with potential failure, her instinct is to “jump ship.” This habit, she acknowledges, stems from a desire to protect herself from pain.

Ultimately, ‘Patterns’ serves as a powerful exploration of Ballerini's journey towards self-awareness, highlighting her growth as both an artist and an individual. Through heartfelt lyrics and poignant storytelling, she invites listeners to join her on this transformative path.
