Lady Gaga’s Dazzling Performance at Paris Olympics Ceremony
Lady Gaga performed ‘Mon truc en plumes’ at the Paris Olympics opening ceremony – watch her performance footage below.
Gaga was spotted in Paris rehearsing earlier this week, sparking speculation about her involvement in the ceremony. According to Uproxx, rumours started on 11th July when social media noticed that Thomas Jolly, the artistic director for the 2024 Summer Games’ opening and closing ceremonies, recently followed Gaga on Instagram.
The artist delivered Zizi Jeanmaire’s French cabaret classic (translated as ‘My thing with feathers’) on steps by the river Seine, accompanied by eight dancers with pink feather fans. She then transitioned to the piano for the latter half of the song.
Gaga, whose mother is half-French, has mentioned growing more confident in speaking and singing French with practice.
This opening ceremony is historic as the first to be held outside a stadium, featuring athletes parading down the Seine on 85 boats over a four-mile route.

Gaga then expressed her gratitude on Instagram for being included in the ceremony. She shared her deep appreciation for the opportunity to open the Paris 2024 Olympics and noted her humility in being chosen to sing a significant French song. She highlighted the song’s historical connection, mentioning that it was famously performed by Zizi Jeanmaire, a Parisian ballerina, in 1961. The title of the song, ‘Mon Truc en Plumes,’ translates to ‘My Thing with Feathers.’
Gaga also reflected on her connection with French culture, mentioning that although she is not French, she has always felt a special bond with the French people and their music. She expressed her desire to create a performance that would celebrate French art and music, and honor Paris, one of the most magical cities in the world.
She went on to share that they rented pom poms from the Le Lido archive, a renowned French cabaret theater, and collaborated with Dior to create custom costumes using naturally molted feathers. Gaga studied French choreography, giving it a modern twist, and rehearsed extensively to perfect a joyful French dance. She even reminisced about her early days performing at a 60s French-themed party in New York’s Lower East Side.
She expressed her hope that the performance would be as enjoyable for others as it was for her and thanked France for the warm welcome. Gaga also extended her congratulations to the athletes competing in the Games, expressing her honour in performing for them and cheering them on. She noted that watching the Olympics always brings her to tears, praising the incredible talent on display and excitedly wishing for the Games to begin.
This isn’t the first time Lady Gaga has been linked to the Olympic Games. In 2021, leaked documents suggested that she was slated to perform at the opening ceremony of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, which were postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Gaga is expected to perform again later in the ceremony, where she will duet with Celine Dion on the Édith Piaf classic ‘La Vie en Rose’. This performance will mark Dion’s return to the stage after more than four years, following her diagnosis with Stiff Person Syndrome, a rare neurological disorder that causes muscle stiffness and severe spasms. Dion last performed in New York in 2020 and had to cancel all scheduled tour dates due to her condition. Efforts have been made to ensure she stays relaxed ahead of her comeback.

In addition to her Olympic appearance, Gaga is set to star in ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ and recently shared that she had to adjust her singing style for her role as Harley “Lee” Quinn. In a new interview, she explained that she used fewer of her professional singing techniques to align with her character’s more natural style. She worked to separate her performance as Lady Gaga from the character, focusing on delivering a more authentic portrayal.
