Lil Wayne Just Surfaced with 8 New Tracks
From Rosalía and Travis Scott to Lady Gaga to Tones & I, it’s simply been pouring new music and bang in the middle of this storm, it looks like Lil Wayne has surfaced with a whopping 8 new tracks.
These songs find their space in the deluxe edition of his ‘Funeral’ LP. And he’s managed to recruit a couple stars on board for these tracks and they go by the names, Lil Uzi Vert, Doja Cat, Jessie Reyez and more. The original LP dropped earlier in the year, in January, and while Lil Wayne did tease that he would drop new music, no one expected a whole 8 new tracks. So, undoubtedly, fans were thrilled.
Lil Wayne & His Collaborators
Now, coming to some of these collabs, he worked on a track titled ‘Shimmy’ with Doja Cat. This one’s all sorts of naughty and playful as Doja purrs through her verses. In this tune, it looks like Doja’s focused all her energy into the rap, which is interesting to see, considering that we’re also used to her gorgeous airy vocals. But the latter does not make an appearance on ‘Shimmy’.
Moving on, perhaps one of the most stand out tracks on this album is ‘Russian Roulette’. Featuring Benny the Butcher and Conway the Machine, this song juggles a stunning harmony and of course, rap verses courtesy Lil Wayne. Just for some context, Demond Price is professionally known as Conway the Machine and is often seen with his frequent collaborator, his cousin, aka Benny The Butcher. These stars are huge in Hip Hop circles and have been in the game for years.
Coming back to this track, what sets it apart from the other numbers is the haunting melody, reminiscent of perhaps a Bond theme song. The lyrics are strong, and rather dark, much like a splash of ice cold water upon the first read:
I pray so hard for my enemies
I wish them well with no other intentions
Life is not promised, no guarantee
No guarantees, but you get what you get
It’s like Russian roulette
See? ‘Funeral’ witnesses countless gems, just like this one. So, just trust us and listen on.
