Patrick Schwarzenegger Shows Interest in Lead Role for New ‘American Psycho’ Film
Actor Patrick Schwarzenegger seems keen to play a significant part in ‘American Psycho’, one where Christian Bale’s renowned performance as Patrick Bateman made an impression.
‘American Psycho’ is a movie where Christian Bale made every effort he could to create a satirical and brutal cult classic. And Patrick Schwarzenegger is ready to put it all into matching the effort.
As a lifelong admirer of ‘American Psycho,’ Patrick Schwarzenegger has never hidden his love for the story. He has once more expressed interest in playing the scary lead, Patrick Bateman, in the Luca Guadagnino-directed adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’ 1991 best-selling book. Notably, Christian Bale starred in Mary Harron’s 2000 cult favourite, which was distributed by Lionsgate.
A user on X (previously Twitter) recently proposed that Patrick Schwarzenegger’s breakthrough performance might come from playing Patrick Bateman. The actor made it apparent how passionate he is about the role by responding with enthusiasm and declaring that he would want nothing more.
Patrick Schwarzenegger has already made references to his desire to wear Patrick Bateman’s high-end shoes. Last year, Luca Guadagnino responded to the initial reports of his adaptation by calling it his “dream project.” Patrick Schwarzenegger was so enamoured with the character that he dressed up as Patrick Bateman for a 2021 Vanity Fair photo shoot.
Luca Guadagnino appeared via video during Lionsgate’s presentation to preview the new ‘American Psycho’ at last month’s CinemaCon. He noted that the script was progressing quite nicely and commended Ellis’s book for its scathing indictment of the 1980s yuppie lifestyle. Luca Guadagnino mentioned that he was in negotiations with a number of talented actors for prominent parts, but he did not give their identities. There were rumours last year that Austin Butler would be considered for a Patrick Bateman role.
Kerry Barden, the original film’s casting director, recently made a statement regarding Austin Butler’s potential involvement in the new adaptation. He implied that Austin Butler would be more suited for the role of Paul Allen, which was first performed by Jared Leto. He cited Austin Butler’s remarkable appearance as a key consideration, which is also the reason Jared Leto was initially chosen.
Patrick Schwarzenegger, who just won accolades for his role in the third season of HBO’s ‘The White Lotus’, stated that he is choosing carefully what he will do next. He intends to exercise patience when selecting new projects after the series’ popularity. He disclosed that he expects their joint effort will be completed later this year and that he is now collaborating with a filmmaker he deeply admires. He called it a profoundly personal trip and a significant artistic challenge, possibly the most taxing experience of his career to date.
