Rest In Peace Kenny Rogers

Today, we mourn the loss of an icon, the musical legend Kenny Rogers.

According to sources, Rogers “passed away peacefully at home from natural causes under the care of hospice and surrounded by his family”.

Through the years, he’s blessed us with songs like “The Gambler,” “Islands In The Stream” and “Through the Years”. His talent earned all the recognition it could get, not only has he won multiple Grammy’s but he’s also made a significant mark in the music industry. In fact, his work over the years, has quite literally moulded an entire genre of music.

But like they say, all this fame and success didn’t just fall into his lap. He began making music in his teens and well into his 20s, but his first real breakthrough came when he was asked to join the New Christy Minstrels, a folk group, in 1966.

The band took the world by storm with their hit,”Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In).” From then onwards, Rogers dabbled in different genres of music, be it folk, pop, country or even rock. In fact, he would often craft quite a cocktail of genres into his later tracks.

But despite all this, and of course his talent in the film industry, he still preferred to be thought of as mainly just a country musician.

“You either do what everyone else is doing and you do it better, or you do what no one else is doing and you don’t invite comparison. And I chose that way because I could never be better than Johnny Cash or Willie or Waylon at what they did. So I found something that I could do that didn’t invite comparison to them,” Rogers clarified in an interview way back in 2015.

Currently, a small, private service will be held for him, by his family. And we can always celebrate him by continuing to listen to all the music he’s given us. Because gems like that, never die out.
