OTT is set to debut its highly anticipated mystery-comedy 'The Thursday Murder Club' on 28th August, bringing together an iconic cast that includes Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley, and Celia Imrie. The movie, which is based on Richard Osman's best-selling book, centres on a peculiar group of people living in retirement homes who kill time by cracking cold cases—until a new murder falls into their laps.
In the film, Celia Imrie plays Joyce, who gleefully declares the thrill of tackling a real-time murder investigation, though she quickly tempers her excitement with polite condolences. Her fellow sleuths—Elizabeth (Mirren), Ron (Brosnan), and Ibrahim (Kingsley)—react with a mix of shock and intrigue, setting the tone for the eccentric dynamics viewers can expect.
'The Thursday Murder Club', which was directed by Chris Columbus, also directed popular projects like 'Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone ', 'Mrs. Doubtfire' and 'Home Alone'. The movie also has an amazing supporting cast that includes Richard E. Grant, Naomi Ackie, and others. Columbus has praised the ensemble as one of the finest he’s ever worked with, noting their remarkable preparation and versatility across film, television, and theatre.
What the 'The Thursday Murder Club' Cast Have to Say?
Helen Mirren shared that she was drawn to the role of Elizabeth from the moment she read Osman’s novel. She had hoped for the chance to play the character in 'The Thursday Murder Club' if the story was ever adapted, and was thrilled when the opportunity became real. Reflecting on the experience, she noted how surreal it felt to reunite with familiar colleagues, saying there was a collective feeling of appreciation and camaraderie that matched the story’s themes of friendship and purpose.

Ben Kingsley complemented these feelings, saying that the ensemble had a great sense of affection and regard for one another. He emphasised the shared enthusiasm they all had for Columbus’s direction and the source material, which deepened their bond on set.
For Pierce Brosnan, the film 'The Thursday Murder Club' offered a heartfelt reunion with Columbus, who previously directed him in 'Mrs. Doubtfire'. The actor admitted that he was already on board when he heard Columbus was at the helm, but reading Osman’s book solidified his excitement for the project.
'The Thursday Murder Club' promises a blend of sharp humour, heartfelt moments, and classic mystery as four unlikely sleuths team up to crack a case that’s closer to home than they ever imagined. With its powerhouse cast and an acclaimed director leading the way, the film is set to be one of the standout streaming releases of 2025.
