‘A Simple Favor 2’: Everything You Need to Know
Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick are gearing up to reprise their roles for more thrilling antics in the sequel to 2018’s ‘A Simple Favor.’
Based on Darcey Bell’s book of the same title, the dark-comedy thriller follows Stephanie (played by Kendrick), a mommy blogger who befriends the affluent Emily (Lively). When Emily vanishes under mysterious circumstances, Stephanie embarks on her investigation, uncovering a web of deceit that reveals Emily’s true identity. Directed by Paul Feig and written by Jessica Sharzer, ‘A Simple Favor 2’ was confirmed in May 2022.

“I can’t wait to dive back into Stephanie Smothers’ darkly hilarious world and reunite with Emily under the fabulous direction of Paul Feig,” Kendrick shared with Entertainment Weekly, expressing her excitement about reprising her lead role.
Feig echoed Kendrick’s sentiments, expressing his enthusiasm for collaborating with Sharzer once again. “‘A Simple Favor’ is one of my all-time favourite projects, thanks to Jessica Sharzer’s brilliant writing and our incredible cast led by Anna and Blake,” he enthused. “Expect even more stylish twists and turns than a fashion mogul navigating Lombard Street.”
In a November 2022 interview on SiriusXM’s ‘The Jess Cagle Show,’ Feig hinted that the sequel might not hit screens until after 2023, citing scheduling conflicts, particularly Blake Lively’s impending maternity leave. Despite this, he assured fans that the sequel was in the works and would be realised in due course.
Where Did ‘A Simple Favor’ Leave Off?
In the original film, Emily is incarcerated for the murders of her father and sister, while Stephanie moves on with her life, dating a new partner and continuing her amateur sleuthing. Meanwhile, Emily’s husband Sean achieves success as a bestselling author and professor.
Who’s Returning for the Sequel? Alongside Kendrick, Lively, and Golding, Andrew Rannells, Joshua Satine, Ian Ho, Bashir Salahuddin, and Kelly McCormack will reprise their roles.
“I’ve read the script, and it’s fantastic,” Kendrick shared with E! News in January 2023. “They’ve managed to evolve her character while still keeping her true to herself.” Kendrick noted that Stephanie has become “a bit more savvy” but retains her essence.
What’s the Plot of ‘A Simple Favor 2’?
The sequel, set in Capri, Italy, follows Emily’s wedding to a wealthy Italian businessman. Amidst the glamour, expect murder and betrayal to gatecrash the celebrations, delivering twists and turns aplenty.
Unlike its predecessor, ‘A Simple Favor 2’ will forgo a theatrical release and debut exclusively on Prime Video.
