Academy Award winner Angela Bassett captivated audiences with a majestic surprise appearance at Vogue World: Hollywood 2025, transforming the runway into a celebration of cinematic royalty and African-inspired design.
On 26th October, the 67-year-old star made a grand entrance at the fourth annual fashion showcase, wearing the original gown designed for her character Queen Ramonda from Marvel's 'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.' The appearance took place at Paramount Pictures Studios in Los Angeles, where Angela Bassett's regal walk drew thunderous applause from the crowd.

The custom gown, a creation by legendary costume designer Ruth E. Carter, featured deep, vibrant shades of purple—a colour long associated with nobility and power. Golden Wakandan hieroglyphs shimmered down the front and sides of the halter-style silhouette, which was completed with an ornate sculptural collar.

To complete the transformation, Bassett wore Queen Ramonda's iconic 3D-printed crown set atop an isicholo, a traditional Zulu hat symbolising marital status. Carter collaborated with digital artist Julia Koerner on the intricate 3D details, showcasing the seamless blend of heritage and modern technology.
The look was further elevated by gold jewellery designed by Douriean Fletcher, including statement earrings and an embellished collar that embodied both Afrofuturist elegance and royal sophistication.
Angela Bassett's runway appearance took place during the Afrofuturism segment of the show—a tribute to the creative fusion of African tradition and futuristic design. This theme highlighted Carter's groundbreaking contributions to cinema, which have earned her two Academy Awards for her visionary work on 'Black Panther' and 'Wakanda Forever,' making her the first Black costume designer to win an Oscar.
