'Mother Mary' Production
The film’s official synopsis describes the plot as a deep dive into fractured friendship and long-hidden emotional wounds, which rise to the surface when the singer seeks out Sam on the eve of a high-stakes return to the spotlight.
Directed by David Lowery—best known for 'The Green Knight'—the movie features a stacked cast that includes Hunter Schafer, Atheena Frizzell, Kaia Gerber, Jessica Brown Findlay, Alba Baptista, Isaura Barbé-Brown, Sian Clifford and FKA Twigs. Twigs also collaborated with Jack Antonoff and Charli XCX to create original music for the film, adding an authentic pop edge to Hathaway's onscreen transformation.
Anne Hathaway Shares Experience Working on 'Mother Mary'
Back in July, Hathaway told Vogue that stepping into the world of pop stardom required her to embrace the vulnerability of starting from scratch. She explained that preparing for the role meant accepting the discomfort of being a beginner each day, learning choreography, movement, and performance techniques that were completely new to her. She described the process as both challenging and deeply transformative, noting that letting go of old habits was difficult but ultimately meaningful.
