Arnold Schwarzenegger Credits Sylvester Stallone Rivalry For Career Boost

Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger consider how their cordial rivalry contributed to their success in Hollywood.

The legendary actors discussed their early years, families and their historical rivalry, which helped to establish the action movie genre of the 1980s and 1990s, in a recent joint interview for ‘TMZ Presents: Arnold & Sly: Rivals, Friends, Icons’ on FOX.

The 76-year-old Schwarzenegger said of Stallone, the 77-year-old, that “he was very helpful because I had something that I could chase.” In return, Stallone acknowledged that the appearance of Schwarzenegger inspired him and referred to him as competition.

There was an obvious rivalry between them; Stallone remembered tense occasions during parties as they both tried to outdo the other. They recalled a funny incident during the 1977 Golden Globe Awards when following each star’s win, Stallone threw roses at Schwarzenegger in jest.

Their rivalry did not prevent their connection from developing into a friendship. When asked what qualities they respected most in one another, Stallone mentioned Schwarzenegger’s commitment and enthusiasm, while Schwarzenegger mentioned Stallone’s calm temperament and calculated approach.
