Arnold Schwarzenegger has revealed there's only one of his classic films he ever wanted to see remade—and that dream has finally come true.
The 78-year-old action legend recently reunited with director Edgar Wright and actor Glen Powell at the premiere of 'The Running Man' (2025), a modern reimagining of Schwarzenegger's 1987 sci-fi thriller. The actor shared that out of all his movies, 'The Running Man' was the only one he ever hoped would be revisited, and he was thrilled by how the new version turned out, praising its creative and high-octane action sequences.
Arnold Schwarzenegger's 'The Running Man'
The original film, directed by Paul Michael Glaser and inspired by Stephen King's novel written under the pseudonym Richard Bachman, followed Arnold Schwarzenegger's character, Ben Richards—a framed ex-soldier forced to compete in a deadly government-run game show. The story, set in a dystopian future, became a cult favourite for its satirical take on media and violence.

Nearly four decades later, Glen Powell steps into the lead role, giving the story a fresh perspective for a new generation. The upcoming film also stars William H. Macy, Lee Pace, Colman Domingo, Josh Brolin, Michael Cera, Emilia Jones, Daniel Ezra, and Jayme Lawson.
Glen Powell Connected With Arnold Schwarzenegger
Before taking on the role, Powell wanted Arnold Schwarzenegger's approval. The 'Twisters' actor connected with the screen legend over FaceTime—with help from Arnold’s son, Patrick Schwarzenegger—and received his full blessing to carry the torch.
Director Edgar Wright also shared his gratitude for Schwarzenegger's support after the premiere, posting a photo of the trio together and calling it an honour to have the original star's encouragement.
