‘Avengers 5’ Could Bring Back More 60 Characters

The upcoming ‘Avengers 5,’ originally titled ‘Avengers 5: The Kang Dynasty,’ is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious Marvel projects to date. With reports suggesting it could feature over 60 characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), it’s poised to be a grand event in the franchise’s history.

Unlike the previous Avengers films, which centred around core heroes like Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, Thor, Hulk and Hawkeye, the new instalment aims to assemble a team of heroes on an equal footing. This shift marks a new direction for the ‘Avengers’ series.

The next ‘Avengers’ film might be directed by Shawn Levy, known for his work on ‘Deadpool’ and the upcoming ‘Wolverine’ film starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. Marvel Studios has reportedly selected Levy as their top choice following the departure of Destin Daniel Cretton, the director of ‘Shang-Chi,’ in November 2023.

Fans can look forward to seeing familiar faces return. Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), Karen Gillan (Nebula) and Tom Hiddleston (Loki) are all expected to reprise their roles. The excitement is building, especially with the release of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ set for 26 July 2024.

The film’s title was changed after Jonathan Majors, initially cast as Kang the Conqueror, was dismissed due to legal issues. This development forced Marvel to abandon their Kang storyline. Furthermore, Jeff Loveness, the writer for ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,’ is no longer associated with the project.

Michael Waldron, known for his work on ‘Loki’ season 1 and ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,’ has penned the script for ‘Avengers 5.’ Levy, having already delved into the multiverse with ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ seems a fitting choice to helm this massive crossover event.
