Ben Wang may have expected a few bumps and bruises while filming action film 'Karate Kid: Legends' alongside martial arts icons Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio — but nothing quite as intense as what actually happened. While promoting the film at CinemaCon 2025, the 25-year-old actor revealed he suffered a surprising injury during one of the movie’s stunt-heavy scenes.
While performing a high-energy action move that involved a spin and a wire-assisted landing on a table, Ben Wang accidentally sliced off the tip of his pinky finger. The mishap occurred when his hand struck a metal brace beneath the table with enough force to break the skin, likening the result to how a knife slices through a carrot. Despite the graphic nature of the injury, Ben Wang stayed upbeat, noting that fingertips can actually regenerate over time.
'Karate Kid: Legends' marks the sixth instalment in the beloved 'Karate Kid' franchise, uniting legacy characters from both the original 1984 film and the 2010 reboot. Jackie Chan plays Mr. Han again, while Ralph Macchio plays Daniel LaRusso again. The action film introduces new intensity and emotional stakes to the big screen by picking up after the events of the popular series 'Cobra Kai.'

Ben Wang, best known for his role in 'American Born Chinese', said joining such a legendary cinematic universe was more exciting than intimidating. He grew up admiring Jackie Chan, whom he considered the gold standard for what an actor could be. He also shared his admiration for Jaden Smith's performance in the 2010 'Karate Kid' reboot, calling it a formative film from his childhood.
Ben Wang also mentioned that his aunt was a major fan of the franchise and had introduced him to the series when he was in middle school. When he was cast, she even requested him to sign Ralph Macchio's autograph. Aware of how passionate the fanbase is, Wang emphasized that the cast and crew are committed to honoring the legacy of the films and delivering a story that resonates with longtime followers.

Ben Wang is Optimistic For Future
Ben Wang attitude about his injury remained lighthearted. He joked about comparing his pinky “owie” to Jackie Chan’s past injuries, referencing how Chan once broke his fibula on a previous project. For Wang, the minor accident is just part of the experience that comes with performing wire-fueled martial arts stunts — and a small price to pay for being part of such an iconic franchise.
In addition to 'Karate Kid: Legends', which hits theaters 30th May, Ben Wang will appear in 'The Long Walk', arriving September, and the highly anticipated 'The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping', slated for release on November, 2026.
