Blake Lively Reveals Ryan Reynolds Secretly Wrote a Scene in ‘It Ends With Us’

Blake Lively recently revealed that her husband, Ryan Reynolds, contributed to the dialogue in the film ‘It Ends With Us’—a fact even the movie’s screenwriter wasn’t aware of!

During the New York City premiere on 6th August, Lively, who stars in and produced the film, shared with E! News that Reynolds secretly wrote the iconic rooftop scene. “My husband actually wrote it. Nobody knows that but you now,” she said. Lively, who also made a cameo in Reynolds’ recent hit *Deadpool & Wolverine*, mentioned that they often collaborate on each other’s projects, adding, “His wins, his celebrations are mine and mine are his.” In fact, Lively appears in Reynolds’ Marvel blockbuster as Ladypool.

*’It Ends With Us’, based on Colleen Hoover’s bestselling 2016 novel, features the rooftop scene early in the film when Lily Bloom (played by Lively) first meets Ryle Kincaid (portrayed by Justin Baldoni, who also directs). The scene is marked by flirty banter.

Screenwriter Christy Hall told PEOPLE that the rooftop scene was one of the most challenging to adapt because it’s “perfect in the novel.” She initially tried to stay as true to Hoover’s words as possible, but acknowledged that the scene needed adjustments for the screen.

Hall admits she didn’t know Reynolds had a hand in the final dialogue, assuming certain lines were improvised. She was pleasantly surprised to learn of Reynolds’ contribution, noting that the added touches, like the playful “Pretty please with a cherry on top” line, enhanced the scene.

Additionally, Hall mentioned that another memorable moment in the film, involving the song choice at a character’s funeral, may also have Reynolds’ input, adding a lighthearted touch that she thoroughly enjoyed.
