Brad Pitt has shared new details about ‘The Adventures of Cliff Booth’, the upcoming spin-off from Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’, explaining why Tarantino won’t be directing the project himself.
Speaking to Deadline, Pitt clarified that although Tarantino penned the screenplay, he chose not to take on directing duties this time around. Instead, David Fincher will helm the project, which is set to be released on Netflix. Pitt described it as more of an “episode” in the life of Cliff Booth, rather than a direct sequel to the original film, and expressed enthusiasm about the shoot beginning in July.
The new film will feature a star-studded cast including Carla Gugino, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Elizabeth Debicki, and Scott Caan. According to reports, the budget is expected to be around $200 million, with Tarantino receiving $20 million for his script.

Tarantino’s decision not to direct this film is notable given his strong stance against streaming platforms and preference for traditional cinema formats. This marks one of the rare occasions where the filmmaker has written a screenplay without stepping behind the camera—something he hasn’t done since 1996’s ‘From Dusk Till Dawn’.
Tarantino Steps Back as Fincher Takes Over ‘Cliff Booth’ Spin-Off
‘The Adventures of Cliff Booth’ is believed to have evolved from ‘The Movie Critic’, a screenplay Tarantino had previously considered as his tenth and final film before stepping back from the idea. The director recently stated that he doesn’t plan to begin a new project until his son is a bit older.
Originally released in 2019, ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ was both a critical and commercial success, grossing over $329 million worldwide and becoming Tarantino’s second highest-earning film after ‘Django Unchained’.
