Stormzy’s new short film ‘Big Man’, which premiered on YouTube on 18th June, has captured attention not only for its heartfelt story but also for the striking wig the rapper wears in the project. While the film has already amassed over 5.5 million views, social media has been buzzing with reactions to his unexpected on-screen look.
Produced in collaboration with Apple and his own #Merky Films, Big Man sees Stormzy both starring in and producing the 20-minute piece. According to the official synopsis, the story follows Tenzman, a disillusioned musician who crosses paths with two bright, spirited children. Their chance encounter leads to a journey that reignites a sense of hope and adventure in the ageing artist.
In a press statement released on 12th June, Stormzy expressed his enthusiasm for the project, saying he hoped viewers would love Big Man as much as he and the team enjoyed making it. He explained that the film was inspired by the fearless spirit of youth and the sense that life is full of endless possibilities.

However, much of the online conversation has been centred on Stormzy’s oversized wig. One viewer took to X (formerly Twitter) to question where he had sourced it, while another dismissed it as “ridiculous and unnecessary”. Some even directed their criticism at the film’s backers, with one user questioning how a company like Apple could approve such a choice: “How much money does Apple have but they can’t get Stormzy a decent wig?”
Wig Reactions Aside, ‘Big Man’ Marks a Bold Move for Stormzy
Others found the look more unsettling than amusing. One person described a nightmare involving Stormzy as a werewolf, calling the experience “legit traumatising”, and another joked, “Stormzy in a wig isn’t real. Stormzy in a wig can’t hurt you.”
Despite the hairpiece drama, Big Man marks a notable creative venture for the rapper. It follows his recent single ‘Sorry Rach!’, released in May, in which he responded to criticism about his McDonald’s partnership and hinted at having met someone special, singing, “I think I met my wife.”
