Rey’s headlining set at Coachella’s second weekend. Cabello expressed her emotions about the single, describing it as capturing the chaotic yet exhilarating feeling of intense chemistry with someone. She stated, “Certain things in our human realm do make me feel like I’m in outer space, and the very rare few times where I’ve had incredible chemistry with someone is one of them.”

In a statement, Cabello elaborated on the song’s inspiration, saying, “Part of that cocktail is also the emotional drama between you and that person, and the chaos and butterflies and nerves and passion. It’s unsustainable and not peaceful and exhausting, but also, I LUV IT.” This emotional depth is reflected in her passionate delivery and the single’s hyperpop sound.

Discussing ‘I Luv It’ with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, Cabello revealed how collaborators Pablo “El Guincho” Díaz-Reixa and Jasper Harris helped her explore a new musical direction.

She expressed her sense of artistic freedom working with them, saying, “I do feel like I’m a weirdo, and that’s the music that I love, and that’s the music that I feel the most proud of making. I think a lot of times it comes to finding people that are weirdos too, and Jasper’s a weirdo, Guincho’s a weirdo, and I think the three of us were able to just keep it in this bubble of like, we don’t give a f—, and we’re just going to do what we think is fire.”
