Camila Cabello Reveals Why She Grew Tired of Her Biggest Hits

In a cover story interview for Complex, Camila Cabello, the ‘Shameless’ singer, opens up about her feelings towards two of her most popular songs, ‘Havana’ and ‘Señorita.’ Despite their massive success, Cabello has grown tired of hearing these hits, particularly ‘Señorita.’

Cabello acknowledges her gratitude for the success of both songs but admits that ‘Señorita’ has become more tiring for her than ‘Havana’. She explains the pressure that comes with a song’s immense popularity, expressing concern that it could overshadow her identity. Reflecting on ‘Señorita’, a collaboration with her ex-boyfriend Shawn Mendes, Cabello reveals that being part of a highly publicised relationship made her wary of being defined by the couple’s image.

Earlier this year, Cabello announced her upcoming fourth album, ‘C,XOXO’, on social media. She shared the news with a photo of the album cover, which features her licking a lollipop that turns her tongue blue. The new album follows her previous releases: 2018’s ‘Camila’, 2019’s ‘Romance’, and 2022’s ‘Familia’.

Cabello kicked off a new musical era with the electro-pop single ‘I Luv It’, featuring rapper Playboi Carti. This release showcased a surprising new sound and a bold platinum blonde hairstyle. Since then, she has continued to explore new musical directions, including a collaboration with Lil Nas X on ‘He Knows’ and her recent single ‘Chanel No. 5.’

Discussing the thematic direction of her latest album, Cabello emphasises its sensual nature. She describes the world of ‘C,XOXO’ as one deeply rooted in sensory experiences, encompassing taste, touch, sight, smell, and sound. Cabello aims to immerse her listeners in the sensory world she inhabited while creating the album, hoping to evoke a sense of power and presence.

Cabello concludes by expressing her desire for listeners to feel the intensity of being seen, heard, touched, and experienced, much like the effect of a spritz of ‘Chanel No. 5’. She hopes the album will make her audience come alive in a sensory journey that mirrors her creative process.
