Characters Set to Return for 'Dexter: Original Sin'

Several key characters from 'Dexter' are set to return in the highly anticipated prequel series 'Dexter: Original Sin.' Following Michael C. Hall's return as Dexter Morgan in 2021's 'Dexter: New Blood,' 'Dexter: Original Sin' began development in February 2023. Though it's unclear if Hall will appear onscreen in this prequel, which is set in 1991 (fifteen years before Dexter season 1), he is an executive producer along with Clyde Phillips, the creator of New Blood and showrunner for 'Original Sin.'

'Dexter: Original Sin' will feature a new actor playing Dexter for the first time in the series history. The prequel has also recast Debra and Harry Morgan, two of Dexter's most important family members. The series will explore Dexter's post-college life as he embraces his "dark passenger," guided by his adopted father Harry's code to manage his violent urges while avoiding capture. The original series showed flashbacks of Dexter's upbringing with Harry, which the prequel will expand on.

The prequel will also cover Dexter's early forensics career at the Miami Metro Police Department, reintroducing characters Angel Batista, Maria LaGuerta, and Vince Masuka. While the original actors for Angel Batista and Debra Morgan appeared in New Blood, they will be recast in 'Original Sin.' It's unclear if Joey Quinn, a character from season 3 onwards, will appear in the prequel.
