Here’s How Many Episodes Will be in ‘The Last Of Us’ Season 2

The highly anticipated second season of HBO’s ‘The Last Of Us’ is on the horizon and we’ve got some exciting details to share. In an interview with Deadline Hollywood, showrunner and director Craig Mazin revealed that season two will feature fewer episodes than the first season. Specifically, while season one had nine episodes, season two will have just seven. However, Mazin assured fans that these episodes will be substantial in length.

Despite the shorter episode count, Mazin emphasized that the story won’t be compromised. The second season will cover only part of the ‘The Last Of Us Part II’ video game, unlike the first season, which spanned the entirety of the first game.

Mazin elaborated: “The material from Part II of the game is much more extensive than that of the first game. So, from the beginning, we had to plan how to tell this story over multiple seasons. As we mapped it out, a natural breakpoint emerged after seven episodes for this season.”

Though future seasons beyond the second have not been officially greenlit, Mazin mentioned that he and Neil Druckmann, co-president of Naughty Dog, are envisioning two more seasons to wrap up the Part II storyline. “We don’t think we can fit the entire story into just two seasons. We’re taking our time and exploring interesting pathways, as we did in Season 1,” Mazin said.

“It’s almost certain that as long as the audience stays engaged and we can keep producing the series, Season 3 will be significantly larger, and the story might even extend into a fourth season.”

Fans can look forward to the return of Pedro Pascal as Joel Miller and Bella Ramsey as Ellie. New faces joining the cast include Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, and Catherine O’Hara in a yet-to-be-disclosed role.
