Charli XCX Slams Fans For Chanting “Taylor is Dead” at Concert

Charli XCX has recently spoken out against fans who chanted “Taylor is dead” during her ‘PARTYGIRL’ DJ set in São Paulo. The incident has left the singer feeling unsettled and disappointed.

Following the show, Charli addressed the issue on her Instagram story. She expressed her frustration, urging those responsible to cease such behaviour both online and at her concerts. “Can the people who do this please stop,” she wrote, according to Variety. “It is the opposite of what I want and it disturbs me that anyone would think there is room for this in this community. I will not tolerate it.”

The context of this incident comes on the heels of a bit of a chart battle. Earlier this month, Charli’s well-received album ‘Brat’ narrowly missed the top spot on the UK Albums Chart, edged out by Taylor Swift’s ‘The Tortured Poets Department.’ Swift’s album saw a sales boost due to a new UK-exclusive digital format featuring previously unreleased live recordings, as well as the hype surrounding her ‘Eras’ tour in the UK.

Additionally, some fans have speculated that a track on ‘Brat’ titled ‘Sympathy is a Knife’ might reference Taylor Swift. The lyrics include: “Don’t know if I’m spiralling / One voice tells me that they laugh / George says I’m just paranoid,” and “Don’t wanna see her backstage at my boyfriend’s show / Fingers crossed behind my back / I hope they break up real quick.”
