Charlie Puth Reveals Why He Doesn’t Have a “Dream Collab” For His New Album

Despite his past collaborations resulting in major hits like ‘See You Again’, ‘We Don’t Talk Anymore’, and ‘Marvin Gaye’, Charlie Puth reveals he does not have a specific dream collaboration in mind for his next album. Instead, he shares his vision for future partnerships in a recent conversation.

“There’s no dream collab,” Puth states when questioned about potential high-profile collaborators. “But the dream — one of the dreams — is to collaborate with somebody who is really talented but just hasn’t gotten a shot yet, and their dreams all the way come true or start to come true as a result of us collaborating.”

In a move reflecting his commitment to nurturing talent, Puth recently partnered with BIC for back-to-school initiatives. He hosted a Creativity Camp in New York City, where he engaged students and teachers with activities inspired by the brand’s 4-colour Ballpoint Pen. The event featured journaling, beat-making, album cover drawing, and a live performance led by Puth.

Reflecting on his early songwriting days, Puth reminisces about his first composition. “I remember it was in G minor and I was 7 years old when I wrote it,” he recounts. “It was just a melody, no lyric attached to it or anything. And I still have it in my head nowadays. I still haven’t used it. Maybe one day I will, but for me, it’s always just kind of started with melody. It was never really a lyric thing, but that’s obviously changed over the 20 years that I’ve been doing this.”

Puth’s latest release, ‘HERO’, delves into the emotional struggle of watching a loved one self-destruct. He describes it as one of the most challenging songs he has written. “It’s one of the hardest songs I’ve ever had to write, but I wrote it in hopes that you’ve gone through something similar in your life, and that it can fill in the BLANK for you as it did for me,” Puth explains in an Instagram caption.

He expresses enthusiasm for his forthcoming album, emphasizing that ‘HERO’ represents a new direction for him. “I’m very excited to share my next album with you, especially this song because it’s a great representation of what’s to come. I’ve never put out a song like this before — it’s very different for me, but I want to thank @taylorswift for letting me know musically that I just couldn’t keep this on my hard drive any longer,” Puth adds, acknowledging the influence of Taylor Swift on his music.
