Charlie Puth Thanks Taylor Swift for Inspiring His New Single ‘Hero’

Charlie Puth has expressed his gratitude to Taylor Swift for her recent shout-out and the inspiration she provided for his latest song. Swift mentioned Puth in the title track of her new album ‘The Tortured Poets Department’, in the following lyrics, “You smoked then ate seven bars of chocolate / We declared Charlie Puth should be a bigger artist.”

Puth responded to the mention by crediting Swift with motivating him to release “one of the hardest songs” he’s ever written. In an Instagram post, Puth shared the backstory of his new single ‘Hero’, set to be released on 24th May.

“My new song ‘HERO’ is about when you see someone you love hurting themselves, ruining the things in their life that are good, but you just can’t save them,” Puth wrote. “It’s one of the hardest songs I’ve ever had to write, but I wrote it in hopes that if you’ve gone through something similar in your life, it can fill in the blank for you as it did for me.”

Puth went on to express his excitement for his upcoming album and specifically thanked Swift. “I’ve never put out a song like this before – it’s very different for me, but I want to thank Taylor Swift for letting me know musically that I just couldn’t keep this on my hard drive any longer. Thank you to all of my fans – you’ll never know how much you mean to me.”

Previously, Puth hinted at the release of ‘Hero’, stating, “I think someone out there was giving me a sign that I needed to release it. So… I declare ‘Hero’ will be out everywhere on 24th May as the first single of my new album. Thank you for your support… you know who you are.”

The internet has buzzed with reactions to Swift’s name-drop of Puth, with one user noting, “We declared Charlie Puth should be a bigger artist is truly the last thing I thought I’d ever hear Taylor Swift sing in a Taylor Swift song.”

In addition to his upcoming single, Puth recently collaborated with Stray Kids on ‘Lose My Breath’, which is a precursor to their upcoming Korean album. Puth has a history of working with K-pop artists, including BTS’ Jungkook on the 2022 track ‘Left and Right’ and writing ‘Like That’ for girl group BABYMONSTER’s debut mini-album.
