It’s been four years since 'The Big Bang Theory' aired its final season, leaving fans with a mix of satisfaction and longing for more. More recently, the prequel series 'Young Sheldon' wrapped up its seven-season run. However, the franchise isn’t done yet; a spin-off is already in the works at Max, with creator Chuck Lorre teasing some exciting details.
Ever since 'The Big Bang Theory' concluded after 12 successful seasons, rumours of another spin-off have been rife. In 2023, it was confirmed that an untitled project surrounding the sitcom was in development. In a recent interview with Variety, Chuck Lorre confirmed the spin-off but noted that it’s still in its early stages. “It’s still in the works, it’s endlessly in the works,” Lorre said. “It’s still prenatal.”

While it's unclear whether the new series will follow the events of TBBT or be another prequel like 'Young Sheldon,' it’s confirmed that Max will produce it, and it will go straight to streaming. One of the show’s most beloved characters, the geeky and culturally rooted astrophysicist Raj Koothrappali, played by Kunal Nayyar, was brought up in an interview with TVLine.
When asked about reprising his role in the spin-off, Nayyar responded, “It’s a little too soon.” He added, “Can you do a [revival] only four years after your show ends? That’s not a reunion show; that’s just another season.” Though unaware of any specific plans, he hinted that he’d leave it up to the universe to decide.

A mini TBBT reunion already occurred in 'Young Sheldon,' featuring Jim Parson’s Sheldon Cooper and Mayim Bialik’s Amy Farrah Fowler in a flash-forward scene set a few years after 'The Big Bang Theory'’s finale. This cameo has fans wondering if the spin-off might explore future versions of their characters. As details remain under wraps, the possibility of the original gang reprising their roles remains tantalisingly open.
