Cillian Murphy has officially weighed in on the rumours that he might play the next Lord Voldemort, and it turns out he wasn't even aware he was in the running.

The upcoming HBO series—which marks the second major adaptation of the books since the original films wrapped in 2011—is set to premiere in 2027. While several lead roles like the iconic trio and Professor Dumbledore have already been cast, the search for the series' big villain is still ongoing. Despite being a fan-favourite pick for the Dark Lord, the Oscar winner told The Times that he hadn't heard a thing about it.

Murphy explained that he isn't very good at the "personality" side of being famous. He doesn't like keeping up with news about himself or spending too much time on red carpets, noting that believing all the hype isn't healthy. He considers himself a pretty average person who just happens to do this for a living.

When asked point-blank if he is involved in the show, the 'Oppenheimer' star was very clear, stating that he is categorically not part of the project.

While he might be skipping the wizarding world, there is one franchise he is excited to revisit. Cillian Murphy recently made a surprise return as his character Jim in 'The Bone Temple,' and he mentioned he is more than ready to return for future '28 Years Later' films if they happen.

For now, he's focused on the release of 'Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man,' which hits theatres on 6th March. Murphy, who returns as Thomas Shelby, recently shared his view that films should focus on being great stories rather than trying to be too preachy.
