Dakota Johnson Isn’t Up For More ‘Madame Web’ Type Films

‘Madame Web’ lead Dakota Johnson candidly discusses her decision to steer clear of similar projects in the future, emphasizing her dissatisfaction with the film’s negative reception. In an interview with Bustle, Johnson expressed her lack of surprise regarding the criticism, attributing it to the challenges posed by decision-making committees in the movie industry.

The actress highlighted the clash between artistic vision and commercial considerations, stating, “Art does not do well when it’s made by committee.” Johnson passionately defended the intelligence of audiences, asserting that art cannot thrive when driven solely by numbers and algorithms.

Despite acknowledging the industry’s evolving landscape, she confidently asserted, “But it was definitely an experience for me to make that movie. I had never done anything like it before. I probably will never do anything like it again because I don’t make sense in that world. And I know that now.”

Reflecting on the unpredictable nature of the industry, Johnson acknowledged that projects can transform during production, leading to unexpected outcomes. While admitting the discomfort of being associated with a film criticized extensively, she expressed an understanding of the circumstances.

‘Madame Web’, based on the Marvel Comics character, stars Dakota Johnson as a woman with psychic abilities, with Sydney Sweeney, Emma Roberts, and Adam Scott in supporting roles. The film faced initial backlash after its Los Angeles premiere, with some reviews labelling it “an embarrassing mess.”

Reports now suggest that Sony’s hopes for a ‘Madame Web’ franchise have significantly diminished, following the film’s critical reception. The intended spinoffs featuring Sydney Sweeney, Isabela Merced, and Celeste O’Connor characters are deemed highly unlikely.
