Dakota Johnson Says The Nepo Baby Debate is ‘Incredibly Annoying’

Dakota Johnson isn’t one to mince words when it comes to the infamous ‘Nepo baby’ conversations that seem to swirl endlessly around Hollywood. During a recent appearance on ‘The Today Show,’ she didn’t hold back, expressing her frustration with the topic.

In 2022, a viral cover story from New York Magazine titled ‘How A Nepo Baby Is Born’ delved into the backgrounds of emerging celebrities, highlighting their famous and well-connected parents. This sparked a flood of discussions online about the concept of ‘nepotism’ in the entertainment industry.

When questioned about this phenomenon by host Hoda Kotb, Johnson, whose parents are actors Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson, didn’t shy away from sharing her thoughts. She described the conversations as “incredibly annoying and boring,” urging journalists to focus on different topics. “Like, if you’re a journalist, write about something else,” she quipped.

Johnson’s disdain for the nepotism talk isn’t new. During her stint hosting ‘Saturday Night Live’ and in a recent promotional video for her movie ‘Madame Web,’ she’s taken playful jabs at her celebrity lineage. In a humourous nod to her famous parentage, she even engaged in a ‘nepo truce’ with fellow SNL offspring.

The actress has been candid about her relationship with her father, Don Johnson, particularly regarding his decision to cut her off financially when she opted to pursue acting instead of attending college.

Reflecting on her father’s ultimatum, she recounted how he offered to continue supporting her if she pursued higher education, but once she declared her intentions to become an actress, she was left to navigate Hollywood on her own.
