David Thewlis isn't feeling any magic when it comes to returning to Hogwarts. The actor has made it clear he's ready to leave the 'Harry Potter' world behind and has no plans to join HBO's upcoming TV version of the beloved book series.
In a recent interview with ScreenTime, the 62-year-old actor was asked whether he would consider reprising his role as Remus Lupin or joining the franchise again as a new character. His answer was a firm no. Thewlis explained that he feels far too old to play Lupin now and has no interest in stepping back into the wizarding universe.

He also admitted that he's had more than enough conversations about 'Harry Potter' over the years and is honestly tired of discussing it, though he said this with a sense of humour while promoting his current project, 'The Artful Dodger.'
David Thewlis in 'Harry Potter'
David Thewlis first appeared as Professor Remus Lupin in 2004's 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.' Lupin was introduced as the new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher and revealed to be both a close friend of Harry's late parents and a werewolf. The character's connection to Sirius Black played a major role in the film's storyline.
He later returned as Lupin in 'Order of the Phoenix,' 'Half-Blood Prince,' and both parts of 'Deathly Hallows.' Lupin's story came to an end during the final battle in 'Deathly Hallows: Part 2.'

Although Thewlis seems worn out by the constant attention surrounding his 'Harry Potter' role, he has occasionally joked about it. In a 2023 Instagram post, he teased that he had forgotten the name of the movie he appeared in while posing with a bag of lupin flour during a trip to Australia.
That said, he does still enjoy meeting younger fans. He shared that interacting with kids who love the films can be genuinely sweet, as they tend to be wide-eyed and excited, and it's nice to be able to make them happy.
Meanwhile, HBO's 'Harry Potter' series, first announced in 2023, is currently in production and is expected to premiere in 2027. The show plans to adapt one book per season and has already revealed casting for several major characters.
David Thewlis can next be seen in season two of 'The Artful Dodger,' which premieres on Disney+ on 10th February.
