Disney sprinkled some Star Wars magic onto Super Bowl Sunday with a fresh new spot spotlighting The Mandalorian, and everyone’s favourite little scene-stealer, Grogu, in 'Mandalorian & Grogu' ad.

Instead of a traditional trailer, the studio unveiled a custom 30-second ad directed by Jon Favreau. The spot leans into classic Americana vibes, complete with a deep, gravelly narrator you might expect to hear in a pickup truck commercial. The twist comes when the camera reveals the Mandalorian and Grogu riding along in a carriage pulled by Tauntauns, blending nostalgia with Star Wars humour.

'The Mandalorian & Grogu' Ad

The playful 'The Mandalorian & Grogu' ad is designed to remind fans why they first fell in love with the characters more than six years ago when 'The Mandalorian' debuted on Disney+. Favreau filmed the spot in live action, teaming up with Lucasfilm's creature experts, skilled puppeteers, and the visual effects team at ILM to bring the moment to life.

Pedro Pascal stars in the upcoming feature as Din Djarin, a lone warrior tasked with protecting and guiding Grogu, a powerful Force-sensitive child. The cast also includes Sigourney Weaver and Jeremy Allen White. The movie is set to arrive in theatres on 22nd May.

'The Mandalorian & Grogu' marks the first Star Wars film to hit the big screen in nearly seven years, following 'The Rise of Skywalker' in 2019. The release also signals a new chapter for Lucasfilm after longtime president Kathleen Kennedy stepped down, with Dave Filoni and Lynwen Brennan stepping into leadership roles.

The film comes from Favreau, who directs from a script he co-wrote with Filoni. Looking back on joining the franchise, Pascal has shared that his first creative meeting left a lasting impression. Seeing the detailed storyboards for the series before filming even began made it clear the show was something special, and he knew audiences were in for an unforgettable experience.
