Alan Ritchson has opened up about his audition for the role of Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, revealing that it didn't quite go as planned. In a conversation with Men's Health, Ritchson shared insights into his journey, highlighting the challenges he faced early in his acting career.
The actor admitted that achieving success wasn't straightforward, especially considering his initial approach to auditions. Reflecting on his audition for Thor, Ritchson confessed that he didn't take it seriously, assuming that his appearance alone would secure him the role.
"I just sort of expected that there would be a cornucopia of comedies for me to choose from," he explained, recalling his mindset during the 2011 Thor audition.

Despite Ritchson's confidence in his appearance, his lack of seriousness about acting proved to be a setback. Disappointingly, his management team informed him that he was almost cast as Thor but was ultimately passed over due to insufficient acting skills.
Undeterred by the setback, Ritchson decided to take his craft more seriously. His dedication paid off, leading to roles in popular sitcoms like 'New Girl' and 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine.' However, it was his portrayal of Thad Castle in the series 'Blue Mountain Slate' that marked his breakthrough in the industry.

The 'Aquaman' star's career continued to ascend, culminating in his lead role in 'Reacher.' Reflecting on his success, Ritchson revealed that he received a flood of offers after the first season of 'Reacher' premiered. "I had about 50 offers the weekend after Season 1 of 'Reacher' opened," he shared, acknowledging the pivotal moment in his career. "I knew my life had changed."
Looking ahead, Alan Ritchson is set to return for the third season of 'Reacher' and will also star in the action-packed drama, 'The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.'
