Did Queen Camilla and Sophie Coordinate Their Outfits at The Latest Royal Garden Party?

Queen Camilla and Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, had a coordinated fashion moment at the latest palace party.

On 2nd July, the royal sisters-in-law both opted for blue outfits at a garden party held at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh during Royal Week in Scotland. Queen Camilla, 76, wore a sky-blue coat dress and hat, while Sophie, 59, donned a pale blue short-sleeve dress with a bold hat. They attended the event with their husbands, King Charles and Prince Edward.

The royal family often coordinates their outfits in complementary shades for official events, presenting a united visual image. Behavioural colour psychologist Karen Haller, author of ‘The Little Book of Color,’ explained how the use of darker blues communicates authority, trustworthiness, and reliability. She noted how Kate Middleton and Prince William frequently coordinate their outfits in blue with their children, representing themselves as a cohesive family unit.

This isn't the only recent instance of royal fashion coordination. Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie, and Zara Tindall matched in pink and white at the Buckingham Palace garden party on May 21. Similarly, Princess Charlotte’s navy sailor dress matched her brothers Prince George and Prince Louis' navy blazers at Trooping the Colour.

The royal family shared a video on their official X account showing Queen Camilla, Sophie, Prince Edward, and King Charles mingling with some of the 8,000 guests at the July 2 garden party. These garden parties, held since 1860, allow the royals to meet people from various walks of life who have positively impacted their communities. Over 30,000 people are invited annually to events at Buckingham Palace and the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

This year's Royal Week began with the Ceremony of the Keys at the Palace of Holyroodhouse and is particularly significant as Edinburgh celebrates its 900th anniversary. King Charles and Queen Camilla will attend a special event marking this milestone. Despite a challenging year for the royal family, including King Charles and Princess Kate undergoing cancer treatment, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh continue their duties, maintaining a full schedule.
