Dwayne Johnson Shares Exciting Updates on ‘Moana’ Live-Action

Dwayne Johnson took to Instagram to reshare exciting casting news for the upcoming live-action film ‘Moana’. In his post, Johnson confirmed that he will be reprising his beloved role as the demigod Maui, a character he originally voiced in the animated hit ‘Moana’ and will again in the upcoming ‘Moana 2’.

In his update, Johnson announced that production for the live-action adaptation will commence this August, with the film set to be released in July. “Exciting and inspiring casting news as we begin to bring together our live-action MOANA family,” Johnson wrote. His post included headshots of the new cast members alongside the animated versions of their characters, generating excitement among fans. He also highlighted that newcomer Catherine Laga’aia will play the titular Polynesian heroine, Moana.

Joining the cast is John Tui, who previously worked with Johnson on the NBC series Young Rock. Tui will portray Moana’s father, Chief Tui. Frankie Adams will take on the role of Moana’s mother, Sina, while Rena Owen will bring to life her grandmother, Gramma Tala. 

“It’s our deepest honour to share the legends, songs, dances, and traditions of our Polynesian culture with all of you and your families around the world,” Johnson expressed, reflecting on the cultural significance of the film.

The live-action ‘Moana’ will be directed by Thomas Kail, known for his work on Broadway’s Hamilton. The music will be composed by Lin-Manuel Miranda, adding an extra layer of anticipation for fans of the original film’s beloved soundtrack.

With a talented cast and crew, Johnson’s announcement has heightened excitement for this highly anticipated adaptation. Fans eagerly await the chance to see their favourite characters come to life in a new and exciting way.
