Eminem Announces Release of New Album ‘The Death of Slim Shady’ This Summer

The announcement from the Grammy Awards officially revealed Eminem’s comeback to the music scene. He will release his twelfth studio album, ‘The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)’, during the following summer. The artist himself confirmed this via Instagram, where he posted a teaser before his presence at the 2024 NFL Draft, which took place in Detroit the same day.

The title of the album is a reference to Eminem’s well-known alter-character, Slim Shady, which he has stuck with since his early releases, including the 1997 ‘Slim Shady EP’ and the 1999 ‘Slim Shady LP.’

Arriving four years after his last album, ‘Music to Be Murdered By,’ which he abruptly dumped in January 2020, this upcoming record is a momentous release. A teaser trailer for Eminem’s new album began to circulate on social media following the rapper’s appearance with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell during the NFL Draft’s opening section. Later that Thursday night, the rapper himself shared the clip.

A fictitious crime reporter announces the death of Eminem’s alter ego, Slim Shady, in the trailer, setting the scene and showcasing his complex and contentious lyrical style. After calling Slim Shady a psychopath, fellow rapper 50 Cent offers input. The reporter then returns, speculating that Slim Shady’s controversial actions and lyrics might have contributed to his demise.

Eminem played a practical joke on his fans on April Fools’ Day by posting an Instagram Reel that appeared to be a tease for a surprise album release. Dr Dre stated in a March interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that Eminem’s next album would be released “this year,” which increased the buzz and rumours around the release and added to the ambiguity surrounding the artist’s pronouncements.
