Emma Corrin Says She Was Inspired by Willy Wonka For Her Role In ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’

Emma Corrin is set to take on a completely different role in the highly anticipated film ‘Deadpool and Wolverine.’ Corrin will play Cassandra Nova, the X-Men supervillain and sister to Charles Xavier. In a recent chat with British GQ, she shared her intriguing approach to bringing this character to life.

Corrin delved into a variety of sources to perfect her performance, drawing inspiration from some classic film villains. She mentioned Gene Wilder’s Willy Wonka and Christoph Waltz’s Nazi Officer in ‘Inglourious Basterds’ as key influences.

Corrin believes that Gene Wilder’s portrayal of Willy Wonka is one of the greatest villain performances ever. She explained, “There’s something extravagant in Gene Wilder’s performance. And it’s a similar energy that Christoph Waltz has in ‘Inglourious Basterds’ because he’s wearing a uniform so he can sit there and drink a glass of milk and pretend he’s a fairy godmother.”

The ‘Policeman’ actress also spoke about the dynamic on set with her co-stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. Corrin told The Hollywood Reporter, “I think probably because it is a major contrast to my normal roles, and I always wanted to play a villain. And then Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman.” She highlighted the improvisational skills of Reynolds, describing it as a masterclass in comedy and a genre she hadn’t explored much before. “Ryan improvises the entire time. And it was kind of like a masterclass in that kind of comedy and that kind of genre of film, which I hadn’t really done before. Yeah, what’s not to love?”

The excitement around ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ has been building since the film was announced. The first promo, which premiered during the Super Bowl earlier this year, showcased Reynolds and Jackman back in their iconic roles. According to the official synopsis, “Wolverine is recovering from his injuries when he crosses paths with the loudmouth, Deadpool. They team up to defeat a common enemy.”
