Emma Roberts and Cody John Announce Engagement

Emma Roberts is set to tie the knot!  The 33-year-old ‘American Horror Story’ actress announced her engagement to actor Cody John on Instagram. “Putting this here before my mom tells everyone ❤️,” Roberts wrote alongside a photo of the smiling couple, showing off her engagement ring. 

This post is a playful nod to her mom, Kelly Cunningham, who earlier this year shared a photo of Roberts’ 3-year-old son Rhodes, whom she shares with ex Garrett Hedlund, without her permission. 

“When your mom posts your son’s face without asking but you love them both so whatever,” Roberts humorously commented on her Instagram Stories \, resharing the picture of Rhodes. John, known for his roles in Hulu’s ‘Wu-Tang: An American Saga’ and The CW’s ‘In the Dark’, went public with their romance in August 2022, posting a photo of the couple kissing on Instagram with the caption, “sweet sweet.”

Roberts made their relationship Instagram official later that year, sharing a photo of them holding hands on New Year’s Eve with the caption, “#2022 I loved you ❤️ happy new year hotties!” In January 2023, they were spotted kissing in New York City, and a few months later, holding hands in Los Angeles. 

Roberts has previously spoken about her desire to keep her love life private, telling Cosmopolitan, “I never want to talk about relationships I’m in or that are ending or have ended. It’s hard enough to be with someone by yourself, let alone with an audience.”

Though it’s unclear how Roberts and John first met, a source told E! News they were introduced through mutual friends. 

“She’s been very content with Cody, and they’re enjoying their relationship and time together,” the source shared. “Their friends and family are happy for the both of them and think they make a great couple.” In February 2023, John marked Roberts’ birthday with an Instagram post featuring a picture of her and a heartfelt message. 

“Happy birthday sheesh 🫠🫠,” he captioned. Later that year, Roberts celebrated John’s birthday with a series of Instagram photos, including a helicopter ride and time spent on a sunny patio. 

“Happy birthday sheesh 🫠❤️,” she wrote in the caption. In July, Roberts revealed to PEOPLE that the last time she cried was while watching a movie with John. 

“I watched the movie The Iron Claw with my boyfriend, and the two of us were sobbing,” Roberts said. “It was just a disaster of crying and then laughing at each other for crying, which made us cry even harder.”
