Ethan Embry Reflects on Missed Shot at Original 'Scream' and Joining 'Scream 7' Decades Later

Ethan Embry, now cast in 'Scream 7', revealed he once auditioned for the original 1996 film but got poor feedback from Wes Craven. Decades later, he joins a star-studded cast as the franchise shifts focus back to Sidney Prescott, played by Neve Campbell.

Nearly three decades after the original slasher classic carved out a cult following, Ethan Embry is finally joining the 'Scream' franchise. Following the announcement of his casting in 'Scream 7' earlier this year, Embry spoke about his long-standing desire to be part of the horror series and his early attempt to land a role in the 1996 original.

He shared in an interview with Bloody Disgusting that being invited to join the latest installment felt incredible and described the franchise community as a lovely one — both then and now. Embry revealed that he had auditioned for the first film, though he couldn't recall whether it was for the character Randy (played by Jamie Kennedy) or Stu (played by Matthew Lillard). However, he did recall not receiving the most encouraging feedback from director Wes Craven at the time.

Plot and character details for 'Scream 7' are still being kept under wraps, but Embry joins a large ensemble cast. Franchise veterans Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Matthew Lillard, and Scott Foley are returning, alongside Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown. New additions include Isabel May, Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, Mckenna Grace, Sam Rechner, Michelle Randolph, Jimmy Tatro, Anna Camp, Joel McHale, and Mark Consuelos.

Sidney Takes Centre Stage in ‘Scream 7’

The upcoming film is set to centre once more on Sidney Prescott, after Neve Campbell confirmed the focus would shift back to her iconic character. This follows the controversial departure of Melissa Barrera, who was removed from the project due to her comments on the Israel-Hamas conflict, and Jenna Ortega’s exit soon after.
